Seebeyond Java CAPS Migration to Oracle SOA

With Oracle’s recent acquisition of Sun Microsystems it has become clear that the goal is to migrate existing JCAPS and SeeBeyond users onto Oracle Fusion middleware and support for these older platforms will be slowly phased out.

Inevitably this will lead to a lack of available skilled resource in this area, leaving some customers feeling they have little option but to migrate to newer technology, exposing themselves not only to large costs but also to the associated risks of an upgrade

To reduce the migration cost and save the time of migration for few thousands of Seebeyond/Sun customers, it is expected to have a good migration tool and the methodology. Our core objective of our migration team is to develop the tools and migration methodologies to help our customer.

Migration can be achieved via following approaches

Replicate behavior or Implementing EAI from scratch: This approach is focused on the challenging task of deciphering a software program through analysis of its structure, function and operation without having suitable documentation. This is especially useful in a situation where little or no documentation exists. SeeBeyond Technical Analyst to interpret the artifacts and create an analysis document that outlines the interface, the message details and the collaboration rules which make up the business process. We then use this Analysis document to architect the SOA suite implementation of this interface.

Technical Parallels between SeeBeyond and Oracle SOA Suite: The SeeBeyond e*Gate integrator is the core of the platform. The e*Gate Integrator enables the flow of information by providing connectivity to applications and data stores across a network. You can loosely think of them as a SOA Suite composite applications. e*Gate is based on a distributed architecture with an open design that deploys load balancing options. e*Gate processes events according to user-defined business logic and integrates business processes between applications, ensuring end-to-end data flow into back-office systems.

Co-Existence or Bridging the EAI Implementations: In this approach; integration architecture team will build the bridging solution to mediate between the SeeBeyond runtime and SOA Suite runtime. This approach is very useful when organization is looking for new SOA projects on SOA suite and saving the cost on re-architecting the solution.

en-TRM®

Global Information Systems offers en-TRM® - a Trading & Risk Management solution designed keeping in mind the needs of energy traders, risk managers, operations personnel and back-office staff. The single platform system is capable of handling functionality across front, middle and back office: trade capture, managing positions, viewing exposure and analyzing risks and accounting functions to name a few.

The Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) makes swift deployment possible and coupled with our component based approach, depending on your company’s needs you can chose the specific features and functionality you require, giving you flexibility as your business needs change or grow.

en-TRM® - Uses the hierarchical structure which allows the user to ‘slice and dice’ reporting for quick data analysis. Our en-TRM solution also provided for ‘Price Feed’, ‘Exchange Feed’ and ‘Grid Feed’ in order to be fully integrated with other environments that are essential for the trading community.

Price Feed - Allows organizations with seamless access to market data providers such as Platts, Argus, etc. which provide real-time market data and historical (end-of-day) data. The interface can also be used for seamless access to market data aggregators such as Logical Information Machines (LIM), GlobalView, etc.

Exchange Feed - This provided organizations with the ability to see real-time market data, submit or cancel market orders, and pull trades - without duplication of effort. This connection can be designed to interface with any commodity exchange anywhere in the world that the organization uses to trade on.

Grid Feed - Allows the market participants to interface with the market system provided by grid operators in case of power and pipeline operators in case of natural gas. This connection allowing both submission and retrieval of volume, transaction status, forward positions and periodic reports.

Net Value Calculator- The Net Value Calculator has been designed to assist organizations in determining the delivery options that will provide the best returns for their transactions.

BMS®

BMS provides Business Managers with the information needs to drive decision making analytic support. The system will improve the data and information management capabilities and establish accurate and consistent definitions across the system. It will identify data required to support effective forecasting, measurement and decision making and establish a more flexible reporting environment and expanded reporting capabilities across the organization. The system will also improve data extraction and presentation time, reduce the dependence on technical expertise, maximize user access by enhancing the capacity of the system and standardize reporting tools sets.
